An introduction to learning simple abstract sketching techniques in the style of Picasso led by Yorkshire artist and designer Justine Hardisty.
Join artist and designer Justine Hardisty for a morning of sketching in the style of Picasso and leave with a modern, abstract and unique piece of art on canvas, interpreted and created by you! You will delve into the history and origins of Cubism and specifically the fascinating life and work of Pablo Picasso with emphasis on his continuous line sketching to depict a range of imagery. Throughout the morning you will learn valuable skills and techniques that we would love you continue to develop at home!
The continuous line sketching technique can be used to depict portraits of people and animals, still life and landscape compositions or quite simply imagery from your own imagination. This sketching technique can be used to create the most amazing effects and there are endless composition possibilities that can be produced by using the continuous line alone or by combining it with others such as paint or collage. Both resulting in a unique, personal and abstract piece of art.
In this introductory workshop Justine will use her 35 years’ experience of art and design study, training and art history knowledge to demonstrate a wide range of techniques to enable you to create a stunning composition on canvas to adorn a wall in your home. Within the workshop you will be exposed to the works of several Cubist artists with a focused look into the life and work of Pablo Picasso. There will also be plenty of paper and time to practise the techniques you have learned prior to starting your finished piece.
Participants will be shown demonstrations and will have guided one-to-one help and advice on how to achieve the best results. You will also be provided with a handout on the day containing art history information and images of Picasso’s sketches to further develop what you have learned at home. The workshop will involve:
• Introduction to Cubism and Picasso, origins and a brief history
• Looking at Cubist artwork by different artists and in a range of styles
