As part of Scalarama Leeds 2025, join us for a rare screening of Shunji Iwai’s haunting cult classic PiCNiC (1996) at Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen on Sunday, September 14th, 2025 at 7:00 PM.

Three young patients break free from a psychiatric hospital and wander along a forbidden wall, convinced they’ve found the edge of the world. What begins as a playful escape becomes a lyrical meditation on freedom, faith, and the fragility of life.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Shunji Iwai (All About Lily Chou-Chou, Hana and Alice), PiCNiC combines stunning cinematography, a hypnotic score by Takeshi Kobayashi, and an unforgettable performance by singer-actress Chara. This film is rarely shown on the big screen — and this will be its first-ever screening in Leeds!
