The food industry moves towards a big moment. The business is redefining itself faced with a generation of conscious customers. At this Pier47 Session, we look at how technology is bringing a new revolution to the table. Its mission? To bring down wasted food resources – currently $1 trillion in global costs – and create an eating culture based on smart sharing, high nutrition, and great taste.

On December 8 we invite you to connect with two of foodtech’s most interesting voices. Flying in from London to start the day with us, we first give the stage to neuroscientist Alan Watkins. He will unpack the learnings from his recent book “Our Food Our Future: Eat Better, Waste Less, Share More”. He will look at the full food chain – from production to retail and cooking – and explain how companies and consumers are able to reshape it.

He is joined by entrepreneur Saasha Celestial-One, co-founder of OLIO. Her startup connects neighbours with local food businesses, so surplus food can be shared rather than thrown away. In just a few years, the OLIO app has been the platform for exchanging 400.000 portions of food.
