About this event

Arts • Painting

Drawing on ancient resources of the Thames and using bedrocks of the city as a repository for artistic expression, participants will learn about the fascinating origins of different types of pigment found in our locality.

Participants will explore how to make traditional watercolours from locally-foraged pigments. After grinding and refining dried earth into pigment, participants will be exposed to natural binders that help turn pigment into watercolour. We will also discuss various ways which one can repurpose household objects into mulling equipment. As we learn to troubleshoot the paint-making process together, participants will complete the session with a set of handmade watercolours to take home.
