Event description

Description

A celebratory pilgrim feast to conclude the Canterbury Pilgrim Festival. Featuring a traditional hog roast with plenty of vegetarian options and lively medieval music throughout the evening.

Times: All of the festival's organised walks will finish at St. Paul's church where information stalls on Canterbury's pilgrimage routes will be set up and church volunters will be serving tea and coffee starting at 4 pm. Medieval music and dance by Sandwich band Rough Musicke will begin at 5 pm, kicking off the celebrations. The buffet will be served at 5.30 pm.

What is the difference between a feast and a pilgrim feast?

Pilgrims leave their homes to travel to places both near and far. They rely on the generosity and hospitality of the places they pass through, particularly for food. A pilgrim feast is based on the pilgrim meal, a communal meal offered to pilgrims where they can come together after a tiring day of travel to dine on local dishes, partake of local beers or wine and share their experiences with other pilgrims. It is a great highlight of journeying on a pilgrimage route as new friendships are formed, stories are shared and the pilgrim is temporarily included in the local community.

Accessbility: Everyone is welcome to join the pilgrim feast. St. Paul's is accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The pilgrim feast has been made possible through funding by the Green Pilgrimage Project and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the work of volunteers and the hospitality of St. Paul's Church.
