This technical talk will provide a comprehensive review of the piling systems commonly used in Malaysia, with a particular focus on the design and construction of precast concrete piles. It will also trace the evolution of precast concrete piles in the country and examine the continuous development of codes and standards that guide industry practice.
The session will highlight challenges posed by difficult ground conditions, offering valuable awareness for foundation design engineers, contractors, and developers. Case studies of failures will also be presented to underline the importance of sound design and construction practice.
Drawing on his extensive experience as a consulting engineer, pile manufacturer, and piling contractor, Ir. Yap Keam Min will share insights from hundreds of projects involving precast concrete piles. His notable work includes the design and supervision of bored pile foundations for a Subang Jaya hotel in the late 1970s, which featured Malaysia’s first-ever instrumental load test led by Dr. Chan.
The format will include a one-hour technical presentation, followed by a dedicated Q&A session, and conclude with networking. Participants will gain practical insights into piling design, construction practices, and the evolving standards shaping Malaysia’s foundation engineering sector.
