The workshop
Communities and volunteers are essential to the monitoring and recovery of native pine martens in Britain. The aim of this workshop is to equip attendees with the skills and knowledge for them to participate in monitoring efforts in Shropshire. During the session, you’ll learn how to search for pine marten field signs and how motion sensitive cameras are used to monitor pine martens at den boxes, feeding stations and trails.
Can you help us to install new den boxes in local woodlands? Or monitor a den box or feeding station with a trail camera and help us build a bigger picture of pine marten recovery in your area? Then come along to this workshop and find out how!
Martens on the Move
Martens on the Move is a Vincent Wildlife Trust project which works with communities, organisations, landowners and managers to support pine marten recovery across England, Wales and Scotland. In targeted monitoring areas, including south Shropshire, Martens on the Move is installing new den boxes, which provide pine martens with a safe place to rest, overwinter, give birth and raise their young. Monitoring these den boxes, or feeding stations, using trail cameras provides us with important information about pine marten populations and their breeding success.
Shropshire Mammal Group
Shropshire Mammal Group was formed in 2009 to record mammal sightings in the county and (as of December 2024) has grown to over 230 members making it the largest local mammal group in the country. The group runs independent and partnership events to promote the recording of wild mammals.
