This November 1st concert will be an opportunity for the two outstanding contemporary jazz artists PIOTR WYLEŻOŁ and SZYMON MIKA to musically commemorate iconic Polish jazz artists through their interpretations of selected compositions of Polish biggest Jazz Legends!

Among them are those they have played with, such as Tomasz Stańko, Janusz Muniak, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Jan Ptaszyn-Wróblewski, and Jarosław Śmietana. They also will celebrate some of those artists they haven't had the opportunity to play with, such as Krzysztof Komeda, Andrzej Trzaskowski, or Zbigniew Seifert, but whose music they grew up with, and which is filled with a Slavic "note" that is close to their hearts!

Line up:

Piotr Wyleżoł – grand piano

Szymon Mika - guitar

Piotr has been creating his own music for years and is considered one of the greatest jazz creators and musicians of his generation in Poland. His last Quartet is currently the most significant jazz groups in Poland. Their first album - “I Love Music” released in 2024, received rave and enthusiastic reviews in many European countries, and was nominated to most important Polish Music Award “Fryderyk” (Grammy equivalent in Poland) as THE BEST JAZZ ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Moreover, the music from this album brought to Piotr Wyleżoł himself two more nominations: as BEST JAZZ COMPOSER OF THE YEAR and ARTIST OF THE YEAR!

Szymon Mika- one of the most talented guitarists of his generation. Also, composer and educator. In 2017-2018 he participated in Fousyear program where he was working on music and performing with Avishai Cohen, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Dave Holland, Mark Turner, Joshua Redman to name a few.“Listening to Szymon gives me a mixed range of emotions. Mostly pleasurable, because he’s one of my absolute favorite younger guitarists around- but also worrisome – because I know he will be stealing all of my gigs any day now” - Peter Bernstein

Pianist Piotr Wyleżoł and guitarist Szymon Mikaare one of the most outstanding European jazz musicians today. They have been working together for many years, touring the stages of Poland and other countries with their own projects. The list of artists Mika and Wyleżoł are cooperating with includes Jeff Ballard, Yumi Ito, Andy Middleton, Dayna Stephens to name a few. On the album "Loud Silence," intimate format of acoustic piano and guitar, they present original music firmly rooted in the broader jazz idiom, giving it their own sound and character. The album also features some of the most famous jazz standards of all time, "Take Five" and "Stella by Starlight" in unique interpretations. For Mika and Wyleżoł the compositions are the starting point for spontaneous and surprising improvisations, which show an almost intuitive understanding between these two artists. Musicians themselves has included a commentary on the album "Loud Silence.
