Plant Spirit Medicine is a healing modality that goes far beyond the profound benefits to individual health that it offers, although these are of themselves impressive.

These two days with Pip Waller will be spent exploring and experiencing different ways to deepen our intuitive connection to plants and our ability to tune in to their energy or spirit. The aim is to facilitate herbalists connect more strongly to the plants we use as healing agents. We will work with growing plants, dried herbs and even tinctures, and spend time in exercises geared towards increasing our sensitivity to energy/our ability to connect - including to ourselves and each other as well as to the plants (and our patients).

Pip Waller: “I enjoyed nearly 15 years of successful practise of herbal medicine, having already had some background in working intuitively with plants from the time I was a student herbalist. Back then a group of us studied for a year with Elisabeth Brooks. Her method was meditating/visualising with plants as a way to connect more deeply with their energy and build a relationship with them. I used this to inform and deepen my practise of herbal medicine for some years, later learning the dream journey from Michael Harner, and applying this to journeying with plants having been inspired by Eliot Cowan's book ‘Plant Spirit Medicine’. Again this sharpened my intuition and deepened my personal relationships with the herbs I was working with as healing agents. I have taught many introductions to Plant Spirit Medicine/journeying with plants to herbalists and student herbalists.

In 2004 I met Eliot Cowan. I began to study with him because I have always looked for ways to more deeply touch my patients. Eliot developed (and named) this extraordinarily deep way of spiritual healing - Plant Spirit Medicine, which is a blend of a shamanic-style approach to connecting deeply with plant energies with the diagnostic and treatment protocols of Classical Chinese Medicine as brought to the West by Professor JR Worsely.

There is something deeply lacking in our modern human societies, a great and increasing disconnect, which is leading us up more and more twisted and problematic paths as a species. Plant Spirit Medicine has a great contribution to make in addressing and healing this disconnect, to the benefit of all our people. It is very much a medicine for our time.

My practise of this medicine over the last years has changed the way I approach treating people completely, and now it accounts for around 90% of my practise. However I do still use herbs in a very similar way to how I was taught as a student of herbal medicine thirty years ago, but with a major difference – I now understand how to use all of my senses in the creation of a medicine for a particular patient. This means I hit the nail on the head much more reliably.”
