Pipelines have been statistically recognised as an extremely safe (and secure) method of transporting hydrocarbons. A 20 year study by the PHMSA (US Department of Transport – Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration) have shown that the number of fatalities owing to pipeline incidents amount to 324 and 1330 injuries. Compare these statistics to the number of incidents from motor vehicles over a similar period, the fatalities and injuries run in to hundreds of thousands.
Total elimination of pipeline hazards and risks would be an insurmountable task yet using an effective Pipeline Safety Management System, can be employed to minimise those risks to the lowest level possible.
This course presents to delegates the newly implemented API RP 1173 which provides pipeline operators with pipeline safety management system requirements which provide an overall framework to identify hazards and manage the associated risks whilst improving overall pipeline safety and integrity. Importantly the course will also highlight how the parameters of pipeline design, construction, installations, operations as well as Inspection, Maintenance and Repair (IMR) programmes are closely associated at the outset to pipeline safety and pipeline integrity.
The course is designed for
