Active Cumbria – Place Partnership

Leadership Development is a key part of the place-based approach embedded in Sport England’s Uniting the Movement strategy. They are seeking to support a growing understanding of systems approaches, whilst convening and creating local networks, building the momentum for collaborative working. Inspiring individuals, organisations and
places to activate change, and adopt approaches that will support communities
to live active, healthier lives. Sport England’s ambition is that every new
Sport England Place Partner will participate in a programme in the early phase
(development) of their work, in doing so undertaking a valuable shared learning
experience.

Key components of Sport England place-based leadership programme:

• Bringing together partners from across the public and third sectors in your local place to learn more about systems leadership, new approaches to tackle inequality and
co-design practical applications.

• Tailored to the need of your place and collaboratively designed with colleagues from your local areas. The course will be carefully aligned to enhance relevant local
practices, not replicate them.

• Innovative learning approaches covering topics such as establishing networks, building common purpose, developing public narrative, and a range of personal leadership
skills, sharing of lived experience stories and examples and interactive
co-design sessions.

• Delivered by a Lead and Co-facilitator, experienced Senior Managers and Leaders in the sport and activity sector. Equipped with a thorough understanding of the theories,
principles and application of system change in public services, plus experience
facilitating group learning opportunities in cross-organisational
situations.

• 2-day initial programme with follow-up sessions at 3-months and 6-months to continue to track the impact and learning of the programme.
