About this event

Planet over Profit: Walk for Sarawak

Join us on Saturday, 30th August as we walk from Parliament Hill to Parliament to draw attention to the people of Sarawak and the urgent need to pass laws that put Planet over Profit.

Why we’re walking

Behind the everyday products we use, from timber to palm oil, lies environmental destruction and human rights abuse. Big companies profit while communities in places like Malaysia’s Sarawak rainforest lose their homes and forests.

We’re shedding light on one urgent example: the destruction of Sarawak’s rainforests in Malaysia, driven by UK imports of timber and wood products.

Every year, Sarawak loses about 307.5 (we are rounding this up to 308 miles) square miles of forest, nearly the size of Camden vanishing every 10 days.

We’re calling on the UK government to pass a new law that holds companies accountable.

In particular, as a local group in Camden we are calling on our two MPs to support the new UK Business, Human Rights and Environment Act.

What are we doing?

On August 30th, we will walk from Parliament Hill to Parliament.

The walk will finish in on Parliament Square with a speech and a photo opportunity.

As part of the campaign, we will.

  • Invite our two Camden MPs (Tulip Sidiqq and Keir Starmer) to the walk.
  • We will send them photos and a summary after the walk.
  • We will explain to them the urgency to join other London MPs that are already supporting the bill.

Why join?

✔ Stand up for global justice
✔ Demand companies to put planet over profit
✔ Be part of a community walking for change

Let’s walk together for a world that puts people and planet first!

The walk is part of Friend's of the Earth 2025 campaign.
