Description

Thinking about planning a community led renewable energy project for your community or would you like to know more on such projects?

Climate Change and Co2 reduction are once more in the headlines. Furthermore, the Welsh Government has declared a climate emergency. The Welsh government is targeting 70% of its electricity consumption to come from renewable sources by 2030. However, renewable energy projects such as windfarms can be emotive issues with mixed views within local communities, therefore are community led projects one way to bring forward more developments and help meet the Government target?

Community energy can cover aspects of collective action to reduce, purchase, manage and generate energy. Community energy projects place an importance on local engagement, local leadership and control and the local community benefiting collectively from the outcomes. It is suggested that community-led action can often tackle challenging issues around energy, with community groups well placed to understand their local areas and to bring people together with common purpose.

Community energy project will need different types of support from various organisations many of these will be outside of the community.

Such projects may be considered as part of a community’s Place plan and therefore the role of place plans can be an important issue.

This event will aim to:

  • Set the scene of renewable energy policies in particular planning policies
  • Why and how communities are exploring community led energy projects
  • Case studies on existing projects
  • Explore the role of Place Plans as a vehicle for considering community renewable energy projects

Speakers will include Community Energy organisations, LPA Planners, Consultants and Planning Organisations
