Event description

Description

Squarespace, Wix, or something else? My answer is probably something else and at this relaxed workshop for small creative businesses, you'll find out why.

An effective website is crucial to the growth and longterm success of any small business, but it's almost impossible to know where to start and if you're like me, even more impossible to finish. In Planning a Website for a Small Creative Business, we'll take you through the diffrerent technology options for small businesses, and how to pick the solution that's right for you.

This includes:

  • Creating a brief for your own website
  • Rental vs owned website solutions
  • Summaries of Wix, Squarespace, Shopify and WordPress
  • The real cost of a website platform
  • Ongoing website management
  • Biggest mistakes most small businesses make
  • The quickest way to launch your own site, and it still pretty pretty darn good

What you'll get out of the Studio Cotton workshop

We'll take you through a website briefing checklist, explaining each factor and feature you need to consider for your business, how to analyse your options and most importantly, why. We'll use worksheets, as well as simple single and group excercises, to get you thinking about immediate choices and changes you can make to improve your business.

And the end of the workshop, you should feel more comfortable about your upcoming website project. You'll also be able to take away any resources and worksheets used during the session.

Who's the workshop for?

This workshop has been developed for any freelance creative, maker, seller or small business owner. From artists and illustrators to jewellers, yoga teachers, florists and shop keepers and anything outside or inbetween.

It's perfect for creatives looking to invest in a new website, whether using a DIY solution like Squarespace, Wix, Shopify and some WordPress solutions - or working with a professional website designer.

This workshop might also suit creatives with existing sites who are concerned that their current website isn't up to task, or are considering a change of direction.

About the venue

Studio Cotton is a lovely little marketing agency and small business studio in the centre of Bristol. Located on the top floor of a historic Bristol building, this intimate and casual venue is designed for maximum creativity, comfort and tea consumption.

Our studio is located on the third floor and unfortunately the building's elevator only travels as far as the second floor. There is a single flight of stairs so unfortunately we cannot provide step-free access.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Studio Cotton is located in the centre of Bristol and served by most public transport routes. Parking on the other hand is a little trickier.

What should I bring into the event?

All you'll need is a notepad and pen.
