Event description

Description

Presenter: Dr Shirley Cooper, LDC Development Team

This half-day workshop is designed for those preparing conference presentations and want to communicate their research more efficiently and effectively.

The session will focus on the planning stage of the talk, including the organisation of your subject matter and the creation of visual materials. Participants are asked to bring along notes or equivalent from a past presentation to share and develop during the workshop, and which will to help you focus on the important aspects that are particularly relevant to your subject area.

This session will focus on group discussions through which we will:

  • Examine the purpose and good practice of the different stages of a research presentation, from introduction and background to the talk, through to conclusion and questions.
  • Discuss differences in practice between different subject areas
  • Look at the use of media in presentations and ways to display data and visual images when part of research results/findings.
  • Discuss how to manage time during the presentation and approaches to questions at the end.

Where numbers permit, the workshop can be divided into discussion groups according to subject area, where this is relevant to the topic being considered.
