Event description

Description

Delivered as part of the HLF funded Inspired Futures programme, this practical and inspiring workshop is dedicated to thinking about how you can use your church heritage to engage more people, inspire greater support and strengthen your wider project vision.

Aims

The workshop will: help you review your Inspired Futures heritage activity achievements to date and how to build on your successes; explore opportunities for engaging your current users more deeply with your heritage; identify some new audiences to target with future activities; plan practical and achievable activities and events to meet your wider project aims; help you agree short term activities and a longer term vision for engagement; and demonstrate your success all along the way through targeted evaluation activities.

Our overall aim will be to work together with you to help you prepare a plan that is realistic and deliverable for your particular church and team.

What it involves

Working in church teams, we will help you review your recent heritage activity, identify successes and new opportunities, and create an exciting and achievable plan for short and longer term actions.

Outputs

By the end of the workshop your team will have prepared a framework heritage activity plan, which will help you build on successes, target future resources and reach out to new and different audiences. It will also be an invaluable document to support future funding bids.

Important note about the venue

Please note that we are in the Stephenson Room (Newcastle Mining Institute) which can only be reached by stairs, so we cannot offer full accessibility for this event.

The Newcastle Mining Institute is currently the focus of a major development and regeneration project, and we plan that the day will include an opportunity to see the Institute and link the work that is happening there to the potential for church development projects. The Institute development project includes presenting their heritage, giving the building a new function for the 21st century and looking for the remains of Hadrian's Wall under the building!

The Mining Institute is close to Newcastle Central Station (main line, Metro and buses) and to City Centre car parks.

Additional information

The day will be led by Jo Scott, a locally based consultant who specialises in developing and facilitating innovative heritage interpretation.

The day is specifically aiming to work with churches in the Inspired Futures Project, but all churches are welcome.

The event is free of charge, and will include a sandwich lunch.
