Are you the mother of a daughter who is approaching or recently had their menarche (first menstruation) and would like to support her and celebrate her journey? Would you like to be in a safe space where it is possible to connect with your daughter and listen to her wishes and possible worries?
On Sunday 2nd March 2025 at 10am I will host at Moon NW5 a workshop for girls and their mothers on planning for menarche and menstrual cycle awareness.
Menarche is an important event in the life of a young person. Every individual and their family experiences it in a unique way, and it can stir up all sorts of feelings and emotions.
Most people think of menarche for its sexual and reproductive implications, but the beginning of the menstrual cycle is much more than that, and it affects how a young person thinks, feels and behaves.
Mothers, because of their lived experience, are usually the ones who talk to their daughters about menarche and menstruation. This topic and conversation can sometimes be a complex one to have. Sometimes mothers are unsure when it is best to talk about it, what to share and which words should be used. Sometimes it can be difficult for mothers to tune in with their daughters, to separate their own experience and memories from their daughters’ wishes and expectations.
During the workshop, the mothers will have a chance to reflect and reconnect to their own experience of menarche, and the daughters will be prompt to think about their wishes and desires for their menarche. It is going to be a very relaxed and safe environment, and there will be no pressure to share in the group, and anyone can say as much or as little as they will feel like.
Together we will talk about the menstrual cycle, its four phases, what happens in the body and mind during each one of them and how the cycle can be empowering and it can be seen and used as a sort of inner compass to live a more embodied life.
We will use art materials to make these ideas more fun and easier to understand, and what is produced can be brought home. We will think together about a plan and how to prepare your daughter for their menarche, in order for it to be an empowering experience.
During this session there will also be plenty of time for mothers and daughters to connect and share experiences.
I look forward to seeing you there! For any questions feel free to email me
