Have you ever rescued, salvaged, or killed a plant? Has a plant ever rescued you? These deceptively simple questions invite stories of care, survival, failure, and unexpected connection - reminding us how plants root themselves in our lives in ways we often don’t realise. We meet kindred spirits who rescue unwanted plants, nurse them back to health, or share cuttings with friends - and just as often, those who struggle to keep plants alive, carrying guilt or regret but loving them nonetheless. These stories speak to our shared, imperfect relationships with the living world around us.
At this open, drop-in workshop, participants of all ages are invited to reflect, make, and take part in the ongoing story of plant rescue and creative reuse.
Tell Your Story: Using short writing prompts, participants are encouraged to write a memory, moment, or reflection sparked by these questions - capturing a fragment of personal history in words, integrated with their making.
Make & Mark: Participants will create unique prints that express their plant story, using block printing, rubbings, and layering techniques with reclaimed materials from the new House of Wayward Plants Reuse Centre. These will include salvaged timber, fragments of architectural materials, textured plant cuttings, dried seed heads, and objects gathered from the streets and green spaces of Camden. These materials offer authentic textures, grains, and marks that reflect both natural and urban stories. The process is hands-on, experimental, and open to all ages and abilities - inviting creativity through reuse.
Rescue a Plant: Take home a rescued seedling or cutting in a handmade newspaper pot - a living story of reuse.
Join the Network: Take away a postcard with details about the House of Wayward Plants and how to join our reuse community.
This workshop is taking place as part of Camden Inspire: Green Loop Takeover - a climate festival of ideas, workshops, repair sessions, talks and exhibitions that challenge our throwaway culture and explore hopeful, practical ways to live more sustainably.
