Description

Pontefract Castle is in the final stages of a Heritage Lottery Funded major restoration of the ruins and the building of a new visitor centre.

The Herb Garden is in a prominent location at the entrance of the site between the path to the visitor centre and the ramp up to the castle bailey (see photo). Haribo have donated funds raised through the carrier bag charges at the Haribo factory shop in Pontefract to fund the planting out of this area.

The project has been designed by and the planting sessions will be delivered by The Conservation Volunteers, a national charity, working with the Friends of Pontefract Castle and Wakefield Council.

The garden is dedicated to the memory of all past collegues

There are five sessions planned for Haribo staff, past and present and families to come along and help with the planting. Volunteers from The Conservation Volunteers and from the Pontefract Castle volunteer group will also be helping.

Wednesday 25th April 10.45 to 12.30 OR 2.30 to 4pm

Thursday 26th April 10.45 to 12.30 OR 2.30 to 4pm

Saturday 28th April 11 - 1pm

Tools, plants, gloves and refreshments provided. Please come dressed for some gentle gardening and wear suitable footwear. Parts of the site are steep and could be muddy.

Meet outside the Visitor Centre Please arrive in time for the session start, so we can brief you all. Should you need to leave early that is not a problem.

Parking is available free and is located directly behind the castle. Follow the brown tourism parking signs for the castle or use WF8 2JF in your satnav.
