Event description
Join artist and maker Tara Joy for a creative morning in which you will learn how to make your own beautiful flower nature plaster cast .

About this event

Join artist and maker Tara Joy for a creative morning in which you will learn how to make your own beautiful flower nature plaster cast piece of artwork. No previous experience is necessary.

Over the course of the morning you will create two small tiles. There will be flowers and foliage for you to choose from however if there are any particular flowers or small objects you would like to cast, please bring these along with you and we will see what we can do.

The course will cover rolling out the clay, designing and arranging the flowers, greasing and sealing the frame, mixing and pouring in the plaster. We will have a tea break whilst the plaster sets and Tara will show you how to sand and finish your tiles. Finally you will come to the most exciting part of the workshop - pulling off the clay to reveal your cast!

You will be given a small sample pack to finish off your tiles at home as it is best to do this once they are completely dry, normally after a few days. Tara will also have additional materials for sale on the day for anyone who wants to make more tiles at home.

Cost: £60 per person - includes all materials and equipment use (clay and plaster, flowers and foliage and a sample sanding and finishing pack to take home with you).

Skill Level: suitable for beginners.

Organiser The Craft House

Organiser of Plaster Casting Workshop (Nature-themed)

The Craft House was established in 2016 in Saltaire by April Chamberlain, who continues to manage the business. Having started in Saltaire, The Craft House is now run from new, larger, premises at 109-111 Main Street, Bingley. We have a lovely ground floor cafe and welcoming workshop spaces on the first floor (reached by stairs with a handrail). We offer a vibrant programme of art, craft and textile workshops and courses for adults, enabling you to develop existing skills as well as try new activities. Working closely with a team of talented artist/maker tutors, we provide expertly-run classes in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We cater for a range of skill levels, ranging from first-time participants to people with existing skill levels (including other professional artists and makers looking to develop their techniques). Our emphasis is on encouraging creativity and enjoyment whilst passing on key skills. We cater for private parties and events - please telephone us or call into the cafe to discuss.
