Description

Course Description:
This one-day course will introduce participants to the use of clay and plaster in the production of a cast plaster tile through tutor demonstration. Participants will be instructed in the safe use and manipulation of materials and associated processes. You will be introduced to the idea of making and working with a clay tile 20-30cms square building impressions and textures or bold abstract designs into its surface. The second stage will take you through the correct and safe way to mix and pour plaster to create a more permanent reverse impression of your design which can be given a variety of finishes and could be hung on a wall.


Who is the course for?
This workshop is suitable for adults who are beginners or at an intermediate level. It will appeal to those familiar with the process of printing collagraphs.


Do I need to bring anything?
Please wear closed toe shoes and old clothes or bring an apron with you. Dust masks and silicon gloves will be provided. You could bring natural and manmade textures that could make impressions in clay. Anything from leaves, twigs, bark and wood to small metal, fabric plastic elements string or wire. Please make sure surfaces are stable i.e. not loose rust or organic material which gets into the clay.


Your Tutor
Lewis Robinson has been a sculptor for over thirty-six years and is an experienced tutor and facilitator. He has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally in France, Slovakia, Germany, Italy and the USA. In 2013 he was elected as a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. He has been commissioned to produce public art works for a variety of locations in the north east of England and has work in private collections in the UK and abroad. He has taught in several Further and Higher Education institutions since 1987 and has lead workshops at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park since 2015. He is a former Senior lecturer in Fine Art at Teesside University. His studio is based in Yorkshire where he also lives.

Workshop and course bookings may be cancelled up to 10 working days before the scheduled start date. Our commercial workshops support the work we do as a charity, and because materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than ten working days before the workshop date.

In the event that The Art House needs to cancel a workshop, your ticket will be refunded in full.

Bookings cannot be transferred between courses however bookings can be transferred to another person in the event that you are unable to attend on the day.
