Plastering Advanced Short Course - January
Overview
We're excited to announce the launch of our long awaited Plastering Advanced course, the follow up to one of our most popular courses, Intro to Plastering.
This course is perfect for intermediates, especially those who have already taken the Intro to Plastering short course, who wish to further their skills within plastering.
Running over 3 days, this is an intensive course aimed at giving students an in depth experience of traditional and historic techniques.
Day 1 - Monday 26th January
8:45 Arrival, tea & coffee
- 9AM Introduction to course and outline of Aims and Objectives
- 9.15AM Introduction to the tools and materials that will be used during the course / Health and Safety talk, goggles, masks, gloves etc. .
- The measuring, cutting and applying plasterboard to different surfaces.
10.30-10.45 TEA BREAK
- Discussion of plaster and types of powders involved in plastering. Mixing of Thistle finish, life of plaster and when it begins to break down.
Students to mix thistle plaster wearing of PPE. Ratios of water to plaster and the maintenance of tools and equipment during the plastering process.
Application of plaster after dry run of the use of Float/Hawk, spot board, whisk and the precautions observed while using them.
- The application of the 1st coat of plaster then flattening off levelling as best possible.
- After 1st coat given time to go off 2nd coat applied flat and fill.
12.30 Lunch / 13.00
- Wet Trowels 1&2 to be completed / final dry trowel plaster completed.
- The introduction of internal beads/ learning how to cut and apply to boards Theory
15.45hrs recap and questions of first days work.
16.00hrs end of first day
Day 2 - Tuesday 27th January
8.45 AM TEA / COFFEE
- Plasterboard and trim beads to be applied as shown.
- 1st coat of plaster application / 2nd coat of plaster applied.
- Wet coats and dry trowel completed.
10.30 – 10 45 TEA BREAK
- The introduction of lime render. Ratios of lime / s, Plastering sand.
- How to mix and how to apply to masonry.
- The use of admixtures.
- The applying of external beads Applying a scratch coat, flattening and filling.
12.30 - 1300 lunch
- Key the scratch coat. Then after given time to pull in a bit apply 2nd coat. Flat fill and rule off ready for day 3.
DAY 3 - Wednesday 28th January
8.45 TEA / COFFEE
- Rule off and ready the render coat ready for the plaster application to complete task.
- Apply plaster coats and follow previous methods to attain finish.
10.30 – 10.45 TEA BREAK
- 3. Once finished this gives every student the chance to repeat a part of the course that they either really enjoyed or want to brush up and clarify skill.
12.30 – 13.00 Lunch
- 4 .finish the task chosen then 3pm classroom to cover the theory and final Q&A session. Handouts given and this will conclude the course.
16.00 Finish
Steel toe boots are required for this course and must be provided by students.
Refund policy:
- 100% refund if the learner has provided 4 weeks notice.
- 50% refund if the learner has provided 2 weeks notice.
- No refund if less than 2 weeks notice.
- If a learner wants to postpone to a later course date then this can be done with no impact on fees paid as long as we have 1 week's notice of their intentions.
