Wed 7 December 2016, 18:30 – 20:30 GMT
‘Shadow of Raktakarabi’ is based on Tagore’s magnum opus ‘Raktakarabi’ or ‘Red Oleanders’. Bishu, a prominent figure of the original play, becomes a central character in this one. He searches and finds the other characters like – Nandini, Raja (King), Sardar (Governor), Gosain (Religious man) and Adhyapak (Professor).
This trilingual theatrical creation in Bengali, English and Hindi was conceptualised by Subhendu Banerjee, a postgraduate in drama from Rabindrabharati University under the supervision of his mother Smt. Dipanwita Banerjee. He first entered the theatre world at the age of nine in 1978. In 1988 he joined Silpayan Durgapur (theatre for people since 1967) as a regular performer at the age of 19 and portrayed more than 30 characters, showcasing implicit care and flexibility. Besides acting he shouldered the responsibility of direction in more than 20 plays since 1999.
