Playdom - Transformative Improvisational Play
Overview
Designed to expand our ability to live more fully amidst the many uncertainties of life, PLAYDOM is a place for inter-personal play, for ages 16+. No previous experience or special skills are needed. It only requires an empty space and an open mind - no props, no scripts, and no pressure.
Come co-create another reality with others, based on mutuality and noticing... 'mindfulness in motion'. This is offered as a small group session of up to 8 participants at a time. Theatrical improvisation techniques are used to prepare for a transformative experience in the parallel dimension - a play space, called PLAYDOM. Here you are a version of yourself where you can think, act and say things you might not be able to in your ‘real’ life. Here it is safe to explore other possible ways of Being and responding to unexpected encounters, and familiar patterns. Here things can come and go at the blink of an eye, or stay with you for an eternity. You have choices and you can explore them all!
PLAYDOM sessions are a contained, fun, embodied way to foster mindfulness, well-being, interpersonal communication, spontaneity, flexibility and transformation.
These sessions are facilitated by Ryya Bread who weaves together her training, and longterm investment, in a range of modalities including fine art & performance; yoga; mindfulness & meditation; non-violent communication (NVC) and a method of trauma-informed, improvisational play called ‘Developmental Transformations’ (DvT). All of these practices foster curiosity and embodied awareness that can cultivate enhanced communication and compassion with yourself and others.
Core Values & Guiding Principles of Dr. Ryya Bread, PhD.
My work is grounded in three interwoven principles: Practising Deep Attention, Embracing Dynamic Process, and Holding with Compassion. These values shape how I show up, create, and connect with others.
Practising Deep Attention
I honour the power of presence, deep listening, and mindful noticing. By tuning into feelings, needs, and embodied experience — my own and others’ — I cultivate emotional literacy and intentional awareness. I value the space between structure and spontaneity, where the curated meets the lived. Attention is not passive; it’s an active, respectful engagement with the moment, shaped by reflection, self-awareness, and care for the Self and the other.
In practice: I hold space that welcomes subjectivity, supports embodiment, and makes room for pause, insight, and responsiveness.
Embracing Dynamic Process
I see process as fluid, alive, and unfolding. Through improvisation, movement, and flexibility, I create opportunities for transformation and exploration — where curiosity leads and freedom is supported by form. I invite people to engage at their own edge: the place between comfort and stretch, seriousness and play. Talent or technical skill isn’t required — only willingness, trust, and a sense of discovery.
In practice: I design time-based, responsive experiences that invite expression — verbal and non-verbal — through conversation, interaction, and creative flow.
Holding with Compassion
Compassion is the container that supports all other work. I offer patience, loving-kindness, and respect — to self and others — and value intimacy balanced with clear boundaries. My role is often to foster connection, support mutuality, and gently facilitate while “staying out of the way.” Spaciousness, trust, and safety allow depth and tenderness to emerge, whether we are celebrating, grieving, or simply being together.
In practice: I co-create supportive environments where people feel seen, respected, and invited to bring their full selves.
Bringing It All Together
Together, these values support a way of working that is intentional, intuitive, and human. They are not abstract ideals but lived practices — expressed through presence, co-creation, and courageous care. In all I do, I aim to create meaningful, evolving encounters that honour both the individual and the collective journey.
