About this Event

What is the 2030 SDGs Game?

It's a facilitated multiplayer, card-based game that simulates taking the “real world” into the year 2030. During the game, up to 42 participants work together and in groups, exploring how the world can achieve a prosperous, fair and sustainable world. The whole experience takes 2,5 hours including playing and reflection and some extra time for networking.

How does the game work?

Every player gets money, time and personal goals assigned, e.g. acquiring wealth, enjoy leisure, end poverty, protect the environment. These can be driven forward through projects, e.g. build transportation infrastructure. Every project has a positive and/or negative impact on the world's condition.

While everyone strives to fulfill their own goals and needs, it is also everyone's responsiblity to keep the world in balance - on an economical, environmental or societal level. Therefore, players have to take conscious decisions on when and how to invest their resources.

Learn more on how the game works here on the official game website or check out this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aKgVVBdf2M.

What will be my take-aways?

The game is an innovative, unique and highly collaborative approach to real-world issues. You don't only get a deeper understanding of what the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals are, but also learn in a fun, playful way about their interconnectedness as well as how they can be achieved by 2030.

Where does the game come from?

Designed in Japan in 2016, this experience has become a powerful and impactful social phenomenon in Japan, earning extensive media coverage and reaching over 15,000 participants last year. 2030 SDGs Game events are held in corporate, governmental, educational, and community settings, and now has over 200 trained facilitators in a rapidly growing community within Japan.

Who runs the SDGs game?

The game will be led by Joel Mitchell, a professional game facilitator from France, and is hosted by Knowmads - an alternative business school in Amsterdam. It was made by Imacocollabo, a Japanese company that focuses on international collaboration.

Who can come?

You can. Anyone, whether working in a business, living in the community, politicians, anyone who is interested in Sustainability and thinking about the world in 2030 is welcome.
