Description

Scottish not-for-profit investigative journalism cooperative The Ferret is hosting its first ever Christmas do - and of course we're taking a cheeky poke at the political scene in Scotland and the UK.

We've got legendary musical satirists Playing Politics, hot from sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and the Scottish Politician of the Year awards. We've a trio of entertainment - veteran stand-up comedian Vladimir McTavish ("One of the finest acts on the Scottish comedy circuit" The Guardian), award-winning spoken word artist Jenny Lindsay of Flint and Pitch ("defiant, eloquent and inspiring" The Scotsman) and political poet Jim Monaghan, also of Govanhill Baths.

We hope you'll have a great night out in Leith and the brilliant surrounds of the resurrected Leith Theatre, join in with our raffle, which should have some cracking prizes, and help us to raise funds to continue our work on your behalf Nosing Up The Trousers of Power.

It's dirty work, but someone's got to do it.

More information:

Playing Politics Edinburgh Fringe description:

Wicked musical comedy from the political parody specialists, singing truth to power for their ninth (and final) Fringe year and raising their game with a one-off, full-length extravaganza targeting Bolsheviks and Brexiteers, neocons and nationalists, Tories, tabloids and Trump. Expect sharp new material and a selection of greatest hits: lyrically savage, musically adroit and totally unbroadcastable. See it live, or lose it forever! 'The one show that promises to dish out the abuse to all sides in equal measures' (Scotsman). 'Peerless lampooners... like HIGNFY set to music' (FringeReview.co.uk, Highly Recommended). 'Ruthlessly funny' **** (ThreeWeeks).

Vladimir McTavish Edinburgh Fringe description:

Following Fringe sell-outs in 2015 and 2016, and a successful tour of Australia and New Zealand, Vladimir McTavish returns to The Stand with a brand new topical show. After another political rollercoaster of a year, 'Scotland’s top satirical stand-up' (Morning Star) takes an irreverent look at where we go now. With the world in turmoil and Britain in flux, what does the future hold for Scotland? Here’s tae us! Wha’s like us? Who are we? ‘Topical barbs and neat twists on Scotland’s culture’ (Scotsman). 'Inspired comedy brilliance’ (Australian Stage).

Jenny Lindsay:

"Jenny Lindsay is one of Scotland's best known spoken word poets and programmers. She was the BBC Slam Champion in 2012, one half of cult literary cabaret duo Rally & Broad from 2012 - 16, and is now the artistic director of Flint & Pitch Productions. Her work has been described as defiant, eloquent and inspiring (The Scotsman) and her second solo show 'This Script and Other Drafts' will debut at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in February 2018."
