PLAYLIST: Cobbett Road Library
Tue 11 April 2017, 19:30 – 22:00 BST
PLAYLIST returns on Tuesday 11th April at the wonderful Cobbett Road Library for another evening of quality live music.
Workers Union Ensemble are headlining this event ahead of their London performance at nonclassical the following evening. They will be performing a world premiere of a newly commissioned piece by Bristol-based composer Helen Papaioannou as well as some of their core repertoire by composers including Laurence Crane. Their unconventional line-up, which features two PLAYLISTers, was formed by musicians at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2009 and has since commissioned more than 20 new works and performed all over the UK. They recently recorded a piece that was broadcast 5 days in a row on the BBC Radio 3 Breakfast Show.
The Drystones are a young folk duo from Somerset playing violin, guitar and whistle, who have made a big splash since they formed in 2011. They have played festivals all over the West Country (including Larmer Tree, Sidmouth, Village Pump, Purbeck and The Sunrise) and at their 2013 Glastonbury Festival performance they were highlighted by Steve Lamacq on Radio 2 as his "recommendation of the day".
To open the evening, percussionist and member of Workers Union Ensemble, Joley Cragg, will play a short solo set.
Come and hear the music we want to hear!
