PLAYLIST: God's House Tower
Event Information
About this event
For God’s House Tower, PLAYLIST have commissioned a site-specific piece by French horn player Laetitia Stott. Cornicen (The Horn-Blower) uses ancient forms of musical instruments to tell old stories in new ways. Since time immemorial, the sound of a horn has been a signal across the world: a call-to-arms, a warning of danger, or the cry of victory in battle. From a celtic carnyx to a Roman cornu, these horns have helped to shape history, with the ethereal noise they make transporting the listener back thousands of years in time. Through this piece, ancient sounds give new resonance to tales of the past in a new interpretation for a modern age.
Hampshire-based vocal trio, Polly Gone Wrong, will delight our ears with original songs baked with folk and blues elements, playful obscurity and close harmonies.
The PLAYLIST Collective brings together professional local musicians as a flexible ensemble to present music from different genres. This time, a classical outfit directed by Benjamin Oliver will perform Villa Lobos’ Choros No.7 and a world premiere commissioned by PLAYLIST by London-based composer Hollie Harding.
