About this event
An evening of South Asian playreading, reflection, and connection
This gathering grew from quiet conversations with friends, family, and fellow creatives — moments when we realised how rare it is to find spaces where we truly feel seen, heard, and connected.
Join us at Pulse and Pickle, a hidden community café open to all, for an evening where stories spark conversation across generations, backgrounds, and communities.
We’ll explore excerpts from:
- Counting and Cracking by S. Shakthidharan
- Thanneer Thanneer by Komal Swaminathan
No theatre experience is needed. Come as you are — listen, reflect, or step in when it feels right. A guided conversation will follow each reading, creating space for participants to share perspectives, memories, and insights.
We’ll also draw inspiration from theatre makers who explore memory, storytelling, and the power of lived experience:
- Rustom Bharucha (India) – intercultural memory & theatre
- Augusto Boal (Brazil) – Theatre of the Oppressed
- Anna Deavere Smith (US) – documentary theatre as poetic text

Is there vegetarian or vegan food? Yes. It’s all vegan. No hidden meat surprises. You can eat in peace.
Absolutely not! Everyone has a story to share, no matter your experience. This is about connection, reflection, and conversation — not auditions. All walks of life are welcome.
Just yourself and an open mind. You may want a notebook or pen for reflections, but it’s optional.
