PlayScapes Presents… is PlayScapes’ monthly applied theatre online drop-in event paying attention to topics of diversity, power, position, privilege, prejudice, oppression, collaboration/conflict, and inclusion/exclusion in participants experience of organisational and community life.

This month we will be focusing on experiences around terrible meetings. Please bring your scenarios or challenges which you might like to work with.

Typically we are joined by people working in a range of different organisational contexts who are interested in these topics, as well as by actors/improvisers. The events are very lively and interactive and require some willingness to share your experience with the group, but you will not be under any obligation to do or say anything you do not want to, and no prior improvisation experience is expected.

In general, each event follows a simple format:

  • Introduction & Warm-up to get the group connected and the creative juices pumping;
  • A short improvised play which is based on an interpretation of a participant’s experience (which they voluntarily and generously share with the group);
  • A facilitated conversation where we analyse what happened and edit the play by introducing new scenes, to take the story in different directions and improvisationally explore responses;
  • We may do more than one play if time permits; and
  • Closing discussion.

In general, either Joanne Wood or Matthew Rich-Tolsma from PlayScapes will serve as the conductor who directs the plays while the other facilitates the session. From time to time we will bring in guest facilitators or improvisers to support the work.

We are running these sessions on a donation basis. Our suggestion is £15-25 per ticket, but less (or nothing) is perfectly acceptable, if you donate more it will support us in offering more similar events. We wouldn't want people to not be able to join if they couldn't afford it. Please get in contact if you would like to take part but can't pay by emailing joanne@playscapespresents.com
