This Playspace will explore floriology and how this language can be used within poetry. Each participant will create a bouquet (whether this is real or fake flowers) and we will discuss what it is that drew them to each flower. We'll explore what meanings people relate to their chosen flowers, creating collaborative collaged moodboards for each one. There will then be some time to write down anything that the participants would like to in relation to their bouquets; moodboards or flowers. Then we'll go through the “traditional” language of flowers, see whether these meanings align with the our own, and revisit our writing in the light of these new associations.
Activities:
Creating bouquets
Collaging moodboards
Writing poems with the title of a flower eg Rose, then poem to follow which reflects the relevant moodboard ie: red as blood; romantic; blood could be prompts
Free writing time; using the activities as prompts
Time to perform the poems using the bouquets/flowers as props
