Event description

Description

Join us for this one day writing workshop where we will be focussing on how to write a monologue for performance, whether this is a ‘standalone’ performance’ or as part of a play. We will look at three types of monologue: ‘internal’, ‘external’ and narrative monologues.

We will use images from contemporary Irish artists including Bernard Canavan, Gillian Hyland, Margaret Egan, Jimmy Lawlor as our starting point for subjects,

The day will include a mixture of ‘hands on’ exercises, text analysis, discussion and writing as we cover what makes a ‘good’ monologue.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the ‘heart’ of your subject

  • Choosing a suitable narrative for your subject

  • Making your subject ‘come alive’

The teaching style is supportive and friendly and will suit complete beginners as well as more experienced writers. This workshop will be of particular interest to those who have an Irish heritage.

Joining Green Curtain Director Anne Curtis as guest tutor will be Gemma Mills McGrath.
