Event description

Description

Following on from the first Plenary TLG last November in Birmingham, delegates can expect to hear about the relaunched Railway Technical Strategy, take part in workshops to help address current burning or emerging customer facing, train operations, rolling stock and infrastructure asset issues on behalf of our customers, to hear about aspirations for new or re-opened railway lines where we believe that agile delivery of innovative and potentially disruptive solutions and technology can offer low cost outcomes.

A full agenda with confirmed speakers will be released shortly.

Like last year when Plenary TLG worked in conjunction with the UKKRIN Conference, this year we are working with the RIA Innovation Conference being held on 2-3 June in Nottingham. We hope to enable attendees to reflect on the industry challenges showcased at Plenary TLG and begin to work up possible innovative means to address these at the RIA Conference. More information can be found here.

For those of you unfamiliar with Plenary TLG some further information below about what it is and who we would like to see there.

What is it?

Plenary TLG is a forum for customers and producers of engineering, innovation, technology, R&D and science in the rail industry. While rail is frequently characterised by those outside the industry (in the media or often by politicians) as being averse to innovation and technologically backward, we know that in fact rail in the UK is extremely innovative and that it has always used technology productively and creatively. We also know, however, that it can be hard and thankless to introduce innovation onto the railway, and that it often takes far too long. Plenary TLG is a thus bridge between those ‘producing’ railway innovation and those ‘consuming’ it. Its purpose is to illuminate, for producers, those areas of the railway most in need of new and better technologies; and at the same to give rail technology users, the customers and funders of innovation and R&D, an appreciation of what technology can and cannot deliver now and into the future. The day is designed to be full of debate and discussion and is very much intended as an active forum rather than a seminar.

Who should attend?

We need influential people from across the whole industry who rely on technology and innovation to improve their service to railway end users. We also need those involved in policy around innovation and technology in their organisations.
