Ploughing with Heavy Horses at Tatton Park

A one day course with champion horse ploughman Jim Elliot of Beamish museum near Durham. Jim Elliott has a passion for horse ploughing, a farmer’s son from the North East he started horse ploughing at the age of ten and won his first match at twelve years old. He has won the national horse ploughing championships over forty times and is currently the world horse plough champion. Jim is resident horseman at the Beamish museum near Durham and has also worked at Acton Scott historic working farm in Shropshire, you may have also have seen him on the BBCs Victorian Farm Programme. The course will be an introduction to heavy horse ploughing with a pair of horses including harnessing Jims very own team, Jim will talk you through setting up the plough and ploughing a piece of land to be later used for an arable crop.
Is there an age limit to enter the event?
This course is intended for our adult visitors.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
When you arrive at Tatton Park, please report to Rostherne Entrance and present your printed ticket to guarantee entry to the parkland. Make your way to the main car park, leave your vehicle and then walk down the farm drive. A member of the Farm team will meet you by the entrance.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Lunch and hot drinks will be provided, but if you wish to bring your own lunch you are very welcome to. Please wear sensible clothing for the work and strong footwear, as the farmyard is cobbled.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Unfortunately your ticket is non-refundable, but is transferrable to another event. Please contact us to discuss requirements.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
You will be required to show your printed ticket to guarantee entry to the parkland and the event. Should you have any issues printing your ticket, please contact us prior to the event on 01625 374428 (Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm).
