Description

This course teaches basic traditional jewellery-making techniques such as soldering, texturing, sawing and piercing, drilling, finishing and colouring.

Course Content

Week 1

Tour of the Jewellery workshop, course overview, information regarding tools and materials that will be used. Introduction to mark making using hammers

Week 2

Make a cuff – learn how to texture and colour metal

Week 3

Learn how to use a gas torch and soldering techniques – make a wire ring

Week 4

Wire ring continued

Week 5

Various techniques of disk making – sawing, cutting and punching

Week 6

Make a metal bead

Week 7

Bangle making project

Week 8

Learn how to size and form a band ring

Week 9

Continuation of week 8

Week 10

Completion of all projects


Entry Requirements

None.


Materials and Equipment

Demonstration or materials for experimentation will be provided free of charge but you will be required to purchase your own materials in order to complete your personal creative projects. Please wear old clothes/an overall and strong, flat, closed-toe Footwear.


Please note that all courses are subject to student numbers and will only run if sufficient numbers are achieved. Plymouth College of Art reserves the right to cancel a course if insufficient student numbers are recruited.
