Plymouth College of Art - 5 Week Life Drawing for Beginners

This course will allow you to develop your figurative drawing skills, based on the close observation of the human form while also experimenting with different mediums and mark-making techniques.

Revision of Anatomy and Proportion working on a variety of pose lengths using a variety of different media.
Tonal Drawing, developing light and shade with charcoal and white chalk on mid toned sugar paper to create drawings that demonstrate solidity of form.
Shading using a linear approach. Bring along pencils, pens, biros, ink and dip pens and cartridge paper.
Sequence poses and movement. Learn how to capture a sense of movement. Bring plenty of cartridge paper, ink and brushes.
Hands feet and portraiture. Tips and tutor demonstrations on how to draw hands, feet and the portrait more accurately.
This course is suitable for complete beginners.
Equipment and Materials
You will be required to purchase your own materials. Please bring lots of paper and quick mediums such as charcoal, biro, felt pens, ink and a brush to your first session. A basic materials list would consist of willow charcoal, masking tape, soft pencils 2b, 4b, 6b, white chalk or pastel, putty rubber, drawing or Indian ink, 2 brushes (a large 1inch mop brush, a No 6 round watercolour type brush), 10 sheets of A1 or A2 cartridge paper, 10 sheets of mid toned sugar paper.
Please note that all courses are subject to student numbers and will only run if sufficient numbers are achieved. Plymouth College of Art reserves the right to cancel a course if insufficient student numbers are recruited.
