Repeat pattern & motif paper cuts for screen printed textiles
The art of folding and cutting paper lends itself to almost any style be it geometric, abstract, floral, illustration or cartoon. We will be exploring this art as a way to create a stencil for printing textiles.
We will look at ways of using paper cuts to make a repeat pattern or a single motif and will then use those paper cuts as stencils to print onto fabric. Students will create 1 or 2 colour printed square or squares of fabric suitable for a headscarf or large handkerchief.
The session will proceed as follows:
Introduce ourselves and the workshop,
Show some examples followed by demonstration.
Second paper cutting either a second design or second colour.
Look at and discuss results
If you have some sketches/ideas for patterns please bring these along. If you have fabric that you would like to print on please bring this along – it should be white or a light colour, light-medium weight cotton or linen (no silk or wool please). Additional fabrics will be provided.
