Event description

Description

We have a very special meeting this month as we have 2 wonderful women speaking Hannah Shead, Soo Brizell-Hogg (supported by Laura Fraser-Crewes and Tina Wilkinson).

Soo and Hannah will be sharing their celebration of the 1st anniversary of Womens Space with you. Womens Space is a collaborative partnership between Shekinah, Trevi House and Eddystone Trust; it is a service for women run by women. We have jointly established 'Womens Space' with no budget or contract just a combined passion and willingness to help make life better for vulnerable women in Plymouth.

Women's Space offers a warm and welcoming environment for women on Tuesdays and Fridays who can enjoy the safe company of other women, speak to women from local support agencies, enjoy the activities on offer or simply come in off the street and enjoy a warm welcome with a cup of tea!

Hannah Shead is CEO of Trevi House an innovative service delivered in Plymouth. Opened in 1993 Trevi was the first ever drug and alcohol rehabilitation service for mothers and their children.

Trevi offers a therapeutic treatment programme for women who are recovering from substance misuse; our ethos is to empower women through education, nurture and positive role modelling. We have over 22 years’ experience of supporting women who are at risk from harm related to their drug or alcohol addiction or domestic abuse.

Hannah has been in the addictions field since 2000 and is especially passionate about recovery for women and mothers. I feel privileged to be part of Trevi House and seeing the difference that we make’ Hannah Shead

Soo Brizell-Hogg is Strategic Partnerships and Contracts Manager at Shekinah which is a Devon based charity. Shekinah delivers services in Plymouth and Torbay supporting people on their journey to recovery from homelessness, addiction, mental health, poverty or criminal behaviours.

Soo, originally from Liverpool has worked in the third sector for 15years and always with a focus on social justice. Inspired by her time living in Colombia, Soo has always worked with a passion for supporting people who face multiple disadvantage and has spent the last 9 years working at Shekinah.

Laura Fraser-Crewes is a counsellor, teacher, drama practitioner, Member of the Institute for Housing and fitness coach. She has spent the majority of her practice working with socially excluded adults within the third sector. She has experience of managing a women’s refuge in East London, a probation hostel in South West London, as well as a residential detox and rehabilitation centre in Leeds. She currently works as Head of Operations and Client Support at the charity Shekinah in Plymouth and Torbay.

Tina Wilkinson is Research Lead at The Eddystone Trust, which provides sexual health and HIV services across the South West. Prior to joining Eddystone, Tina was a university researcher but wanted to get involved with community based organisations where she believed research could play an important role.

We we hope you can join us for this fun, free networking and hear about this amazing project.
