Event description
A one-day virtual conference for those with a passion for marine natural history.

About this Event

About this Event

Once again, we invite you to join us to share in our fascination for all things marine. This year's theme is “Connecting to our coasts” – A one-day virtual conference for those with a passion for marine natural history. This will be an opportunity to experience the creativity, ingenuity, and even serendipity, that have enabled the marine community to maintain and enhance their connections to our coasts. Sessions will include presentations, workshops, and informal opportunities to connect with experts and like-minded people.

Venue

2020 has been a difficult year for many, and we have all had to adapt in order to carry on with our daily lives, so this year for the very first time PMNHS are pleased to announce our conference is going digital.

The conference will be held online, via Zoom. Allowing participants from all over the world to enjoy the conference from the comfort of your own home.

Once you have registered your place, participants will be sent login details ahead of the conference, allowing you to log in to live presentations and workshops throughout the day. Presentations will also be available to participants, online following the event.

Registration

Registration is FREE to all current PMNHS Members, *please select the Free membership option when registering- you will not be charged but this will allocate you a ticket as spaces are limited.

For Non-members, there is a small fee, which includes a year's membership to PMNHS, allowing you to take advantage of all the benefits of the PMNHS including receiving a copy of the Biannual Bulletins.

Evening Conference Quiz

Unfortunately, we are unable to meet in person this year and therefore we will not be hosting our usual conference Dinner, however, we will be hosting the infamous Porcupine Quiz, again through the online Zoom platform.

This will be an open, free event with a separate link sent to all participants who register for the conference, who wish to join. The Quiz will be held in the evening at 1930 following a break from the end of the conference, and last approximately 90 minutes.

PMNHS Field Trip Weekend 20-21st March

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, it is unfortunately not possible to arrange a large group field trip in association with the conference.

However, recognising that being in the field is an important part of the PMNHS and each year having a field day associated with the conference allows a fantastic opportunity to share findings, ID queries, and interesting observations, we are keen to still do this all be it in a slightly different capacity.

So this year we will be encouraging all conference participants to get out to their local coastline, river, estuary or whatever is practicable for you, to participate in a nationwide field day, the weekend prior to the conference 20-21st March.

We will then be accepting photos, observations, discussion points, ID queries via email in the run-up to the conference to form the basis of the Workshop discussions, where you will be able to share and discuss field notes with fellow Porcupines.

There is no need to register for the field weekend, but please keep an eye on your email inbox, the PMNHS website, and our social media for tips on how to make the most of your field trip and ideas on what kind of observations, and records we would like to see.

Any queries on either the conference, quiz, or field trip weekend please contact conference@pmnhs.co.uk

By registering for this event, you are confirming that you are consenting to the Porcupine Marine Natural History Society contacting you by post, phone or email (as applicable) and holding and processing your personal data for the purposes listed.
