POC Workshop: Endings and Beginnings
Event Information
About this Event
Improvised scenes, a wise man once said, often continue as they begin. If that is with energy, definition, and specificity, a scene will be easy and delightful to play. But if we are unclear at the top, a scene sometimes just doesn’t get going, struggles to find its core, and is unsatisfying for audience and players alike.
In this workshop, you will look at different ways to begin scenes both with and without suggestions. You will experiment with how to make a clear offer to your partner without demanding anything from them, inviting them into a scene, not forcing them to just fill in the blanks. You will work on making scenes where no matter how bold you begin, you both own what happens next.
You will also look at how to bring a scene to an ending, making a satisfying whole either by reaching an emotional climax or returning to the beginning.
Nursery/Maydays Sunday Classes
We work hard to provide a welcoming environment for all improvisers. In order to give space to different experiences and identities, the Nursery and the Maydays have worked to provide opportunities for specific groups to meet, connect, and improvise with one another. Each workshop will cover different topics depending on the instructor. Sometimes sessions will be aimed at particular skills, issues and questions, and other times they will simply be a place for people to come together and play.
The Nursery and the Maydays are constantly working to create programming based on the needs of our current students and the global improv community. If there is an underrepresented group that you would like to see have a workshop, send an email to classes@thenurseryimprovtheatre.com
Min. participants 6, max. 12.

If you sign up for a class inappropriate to your level the Nursery/Maydays reserved the right to remove you from the class without refund.
