An evening of poetry and conversation on refugee, migrant and undocumented people's experiences, and the obligation of governments
About this event
Taking place on Monday, 21 March which is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination as well as World Poetry Day, Poems for a Challenging World is spurred by the CivicLeicester’s timely anthology Poetry and Settled Status For All, published January 2022.
The evening is part of a series aimed at continuing the discussion on refugee and migrant experiences, the hostile environment they often encounter, and why individuals and communities should insist governments treat people with decency and humanity.
Poets and speakers at the event include John Davison, Anne Goodwin, Joachim Grevel, Laura Grevel, Sheila Hayman, Jeff Kaliss, Monica Manolachi, Ambrose Musiyiwa, Manjit Sahota, Deborah Tyler-Bennett, Isobel Zimsek, and Poet One and Two from Write to Life.
As part of the evening, there will be a short presentation from representatives of Freedom From Torture and Write to Life explaining how these UK groups help support refugees and migrants.
