About this event
Poems for Palestine
Luton Palestine Solidarity Campaign invite you to The Baklava Company for an intimate evening of poetry dedicated to Palestine. Whether you're a seasoned poet or just enjoy listening, this event is for you.
You will have the opportunity to hear from an amazing line-up of poets:
Jonothan Wonham
Jonathan Wonham’s first book was Steel Horizon, a collection of poetry describing life on a North Sea oil rig (Incline Press, 2013). This was followed by two books of prose poems, Ordinary Others and Vulgar Variants (Drizzle-Dazzle, 2020, 2021). In 2023-2025, Jonathan wrote two books that protest against the genocide in Gaza through poetry and a day-by-day reporting of events. Sales of the books are raising funds for Palestinian refugee charities. These books are Ceasefire Now! (Drizzle-Dazzle, 2024) and Dystopia Persecutia (Drizzle-Dazzle, 2025).
Taher Adel
Taher Adel is an award-winning British-Bahraini poet, novelist, and spoken word artist. He holds an MA in Creative Writing and Poetry from the University of East Anglia and a BEng in Biomedical Engineering from City University London. He currently serves as a judge for the Stephen Spender Poetry Prize and was appointed Poet in Residence for Wells-next-the-Sea in 2019 and Creative Practitioner for the University of Bedfordshire in 2024.
His literary works include 'I Don't Know What Language I Dream In' (Burning Eye Books, September 2023), 'The Names' (translated into Arabic by Rewayat Reads), 'The Chosen Names', and 'The Divine Names' (both published by Sun Behind The Cloud). His debut novel 'The Last Palestinian' (publication date TBC) received the Taner Baybars Award for original fiction in the field of science fiction, fantasy, and magical realism, awarded by the Society of Authors and the Authors' Foundation. His short story "So long as the olive tree lives" was longlisted for the Azhar Writing Prize.
Aisha Naushahi Hasan
A passionate student activist and spoken word poet who demonstrates and performs for Palestine, Pakistan, climate change and other social justice causes.
We are hoping there will also be a few open mic slots available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Let's share our solidarity with Palestine through poetry.
With thanks to Imrana Mahmood [Creative Producer]
See you there!
