Poetry and Movement
The poet Paul Valéry writes that 'Poetry is to prose as dancing is to walking' — but is there any truth to his observation? Combining recent cognitive theory, research and performance, this participatory workshop aims to get closer to the truth of Valéry’s comparison, and in doing so, our enjoyment of poetry.
This workshop devises and attempts to test out some of the assumptions about how and why poetry affects us. It may consider poems by Clare, Hopkins, Mayakovsky and Gizzi.
