About this event
Brigadoon presents... poetry from I-Sis and live music from Pandora's Diary
Welcome to the first manifestation of “Brigadoon!”, our summer-long series of canal-boat based programs that magically appear across London.
I-Sis, originally from Trinidad, in the Caribbean, is based in West London, she describes herself as an Eclectic Afrikan Centric Poet, “Your [I Sis] voice is expressive and your ideas are well thought out, and have impact[1]”.She draws inspiration from her activism and engagement with Pan Afrikan politics and campaigning against structural injustice over the last 30 years.
Her poetry encapsulates her commitment to anti-colonialist -racist - imperialist struggle, explores reparations (for enslaved Afrikans), identity, culture and language, alongside her personal experiences as a migrant Afrikan Caribbean woman in the world. ‘I use my poetry as advocacy’. I Sis is passionate about WORDplay, the elasticity of language, playing with words, language is the prize of the victor, the tool of the oppressor[2]. She has a MA in Black British Writing.
Lily is a soulful singer-songwriter based in London, but she started her musical journey living above a violin and guitar workshop in Penryn. In her music you can hear both the influence of the city and the coast, giving her writing a truly unique style that’s all her own. A mixture of Jeff Buckley and Lianne La Havas influences.
Pandora's Diary - purveyor of bohofolk on street corners, festivals and boats, Pandora writes songs about codependency, trust issues and of course hope. She loves to sing with her audiences and include them on her journey.
Due to ongoing Covid concerns, each session is limited to 12 people on the deck of the boat.
Reserve a seat for this intimate session for £10, refundable if you attend, with all monies gratefully accepted to keep brigadoon going.
