Description

Darian Leader is a psychoanalyst and member of the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research. His bestselling books include Lacan for Beginners; Why Do Women Write More Letters Than they Post?; Promises Lovers Make When It Gets Late; Stealing the Mona Lisa: What Art Stops Us from Seeing; What Is Madness ?(2011); The New Black: Mourning, Melancholia, and Depression; and Hands: What We Do With Them and Why.

Emily Berry, editor of The Poetry Review, won the Hawthornden Prize and Forward Prize for Best First Collection with her poetry debut Dear Boy (Faber 2013). The poems in her collection Stranger, Baby draw on Freud, mining his words and fascination with dreams, but challenging the limits of his therapy in a moving interrogation of her own response to her mother’s death when she was a child.

Each speaker will talk and read for about twenty minutes. Their readings and inter-action will be chaired by Professor of Poetry Ruth Padel, and followed by free refreshment, book-signings, and an opportunity to talk to the speakers.
