Description

Traveller-doctor Gavin Francis, contributor to London Review of Books and New York Review of Books, is author of True North: Travels in Arctic Europe, the prize-winning science book Adventures in Human Being, and most recently Shapeshifters - On Medicine & Human Change. He will talk on the body, its adventures, ailments and possibilities, seen partly through the lens of poetry. Read more

Prize-winning poet Linda Gregerson is Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Michigan, and Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Her ‘dauntless and serrated’ (New Yorker) work in Prodigal, New and Selected Poems 1976-2014, explores the wonders and dangers of our inner and outer worlds, from the ‘havoc’ of mestasizing cells to the metamorphoses woven into experience of the American dream.

She will read poems that weave around the subject of the body, its hazards and endurance.

Their readings and inter-action will be chaired by Professor of Poetry Ruth Padel, and followed by free refreshment, book-signings, and an opportunity to talk to the speakers.
