About this event

Arts • Literary Arts

Join us for the latest instalment of monthly poetry evenings at Lala Books, featuring acclaimed poets Richard Scott and Wayne Holloway-Smith, two of London's most revered contemporary voices.

There will also be readings from Page of Wands, a writers’ collective that meets weekly at SET Social in Peckham, and additional open mic slots for new and emerging talent, available on a first come, first served basis (please register on arrival).

Richard Scott is a poet and lecturer in Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London, and teaches at the Faber Academy. His debut collection Soho was shortlisted for the T. S. Eliot Prize, Forward Prize for Best First Collection, and the Costa Poetry Award. His second collection,That Broke into Shining Crystals, was released earlier this year to further acclaim.

Wayne Holloway-Smith is a British poet and editor. He won the Poetry Society's Geoffrey Dearmer Prize in 2017 and the National Poetry Competition in 2018. His debut collection, Alarum was shortlisted for the Roehampton Prize for Best Collection and the Seamus Heaney Centre Prize for Best First Collection. Love Minus Love was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize. Wayne's latest book, Lobsters was published in January 2022. He has appeared on Radio 4's The Echo Chamber and Blast, Radio 3's The Verb, Radio 6's Cillian Murphy Show, and is a regular contributor to BBC London's The Robert Elm's Show. He is also currently the editor of the Poetry Review.

Page of Wands is a writers’ collective that meets weekly at SET Social in Peckham. They are for anyone that’s interested in and enjoys words.

Tickets are £10 and fully redeemable against any poetry book purchased at the event.

Open mic performers receive complimentary drinks.

If you'd like to come but can’t afford a ticket, please select a free ticket or email hello@lalabooks.london — we have a limited number of free tickets and books available through our community pay-it-forward scheme.
