About this event

Join us for the latest instalment of monthly poetry evenings at Lala Books, featuring two of London's most exciting poets: Tice Cin and Isabelle Baafi.

There will also be readings from Page of Wands, a writers’ collective that meets weekly at SET Social in Peckham, and additional open mic slots for new and emerging talent, available on a first come, first served basis (please register on arrival).

Tice Cin is an interdisciplinary artist, working across literature, poetry, music and moving image. Her debut novel Keeping the House was named one of The Guardian’s Best Books of the Year. In 2024 she was selected by the British Council and National Centre for Writing as one of their ILX 10 — a programme spotlighting writers of prose, poetry and hybrid forms with global reach.

Tice is also an acclaimed DJ, music producer and music journalist, named one of Complex’s best music writers of 2021 and 2022. She is also the founder of Neoprene Genie, an interdisciplinary platform producing films, events and collaborations. Her BBC Radio 4 documentary How Much Can You Say? won an Audio Production Award.

Isabelle Baafi is a British-born writer and editor of Jamaican and South African heritage. Her debut collection Chaotic Good is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation for Summer 2025, following her award-winning pamphlet Ripe.

She has won the Winchester Poetry Prize, received a Somerset Maugham Award, and been recognised by the Brunel International African Poetry Prize, the Oxford Poetry Prize, and the Manchester Poetry Prize, among others. Her work appears in Granta, The Poetry Review, TLS and Callaloo, and has been commissioned by BBC Radio 3.

Page of Wands is a writers’ collective that meets weekly at SET Social in Peckham. They are for anyone that’s interested in and enjoys words.

Tickets are £10 and fully redeemable against any poetry book purchased at the event.

Open mic performers receive complimentary drinks.

If you'd like to come but can’t afford a ticket, please select a free ticket or email hello@lalabooks.london — we have a limited number of free tickets and books available through our community pay-it-forward scheme.
