Event description

Description

This six-week course takes you through various aspects of the craft of poetry, deepening your understanding of your voice and creative practice. It's open to everyone from complete beginners to experienced poets. Taught in a small, friendly workshop group (max. 8 participants), you'll get all the help and inspiration you need as you work on a new sequence of poems.

The course begins with new ways of ‘starting’ poems and ends with a session on writing a sequence of poems linked by theme. Other workshop topics look at current trends in contemporary poetry such as writing about crisis, autobiographical and empathetic writing, and poems which use repetition and sound to create a sense of musicality. Throughout the course you will look at works by contemporary poets and current trends in poetry form, including the lyric essay and modern sonnet.

This course combines reading, discussion and writing with an opportunity for feedback on a submission of poems at the end of the course. The workshops take place weekly on a Monday evening, for two hours, 6.30-8.30pm.

Your tutor on this course is award-winning poet Theresa Munoz, author of Settle. For more information, please visit our website www.skrivawriting.com, or find out more about Theresa's work here: www.theresamunoz.com.
