Join us for a poetry feast in the warm, welcoming ambience of Coffee1on Bristol's bustling North Street. Poets Julie-ann Rowell and Elizabeth Parker will be reading poems from their collections, as well as new work. You can share your own writing and enjoy an exciting range of poetry during two open mic sessions.

The cafe will be serving a range of snacks and cakes, along with hot and cold beverages.

Julie-Ann Rowell is a multi-award-winning poet whose work has won, and been shortlisted for, many prestigious awards. Her poem Fata Morgana was Highly Commended in the Forward Prize Single Poem section, 2020/21. Her seventh collection, a pamphlet called Hame, describes life on the Orkney Isles where she lives.

Elizabeth Parker is co-founder of poetry groups The Spoke and Braid. She co-hosts Bristol poetry night Under The Red Guitar. Her pamphlet Antinopolis was published by Eyewear in 2016. Her collection In Her Shambles was published by Seren in 2018. Her second Seren collection, Cormorant, was published in February 2024.

Elizabeth Parker was born in London and grew up in a garden centre in The Forest of Dean. She attended Monmouth Comprehensive School and school trips to Ty Newydd writing centre nurtured her passion for creative writing. She achieved First Class Honours in English and Creative Writing at Warwick University, under the inspiring tutelage of David Morley, Maureen Freeley and Peter Blegvad. She also has an MA in Mythology from Bristol University. Elizabeth was a secondary English teacher for eight years and is writing two novels based on her experiences in the classroom.

Elizabeth’s poetry has been published in various journals including Magma, The Stony Thursday Book, The Interpreter’s House and Agenda. She was a prizewinner in the 2016 Troubadour International Poetry Prize. Following her 2016 pamphlet, Antinopolis (published by Eyewear), Elizabeth’s first full collection, In Her Shambles, was published by Seren in April 2018. Elizabeth's second collection 'Cormorant' was published by Seren Books in February 2024.
